Abstract

The existence of SMEs has played an important role in the absorption of
manpower, processing of local resources, providing economic services, equity
and increasing community income, and being potential in the forming of
productive and competitive enterprises. In empowering SMEs is required efforts
to improve product quality, market access, and utilization of appropriate
technology to provide greater benefit and can be felt by the surrounding
community.
Some aspects of innovation that have been done by Universitas Gadjah
Mada for UMKM through assisted villages in the form of innovation in the field:
(1) production process technology, (2) marketing and network, and (3) product
design. MSMEs are expected to compete in both local and global markets. In
implementing these innovations and technologies it is necessary to support
various aspects: (1) regulation, (2) policy, (3) finance, (4) human resource
capacity, and (5) technology.
The development strategy of SMEs is aimed to print as many as possible
UMKM able to apply technopreneurship principle with dynamic and sustainable
business degree (dynamic sustainable enterprise). Achieving that degree if SMEs
is able to meet various conditions: (1) product dynamic sustainability, (2)
dynamic sustainability of production process, (3) dynamic sustainability of
resources, and (4) dynamic sustainability strategic role.
To maintain the existence of SMEs products and make the global market
as an opportunity and threat is needed to strengthen the capacity of SMEs in
penetrating and competing with products from abroad. Implementation of
technological innovation and mentoring product for SMEs has been conducted by
Gadjah Mada University in 2006 with facilitation and partnership for SMEs
development in Yogyakarta and Central Java Special Region with the number of
assisted by 30 villages and 350 SMEs and various business scope.
