Abstract

The purpose of this study is to show that accounting earnings and
operating cash flows affect a company in distributing cash dividends. Dividends
are preferred by investors, especially in cash. Investors will invest their shares if
a company can distribute dividends. Generally investors will further maintain
their shares if the company distributes a stable dividend. If changed, this can
make the company to be reluctant to invest its share capital, and reduce investor
confidence in the company. The company's financial information, mainly on
accounting profit and operating cash flow, is the main indicator in determining
the dividend payout, since accounting profit is the result of the company's
operations and the operating cash flow is the amount of cash owned by the
company without relying on funding sources outside the company's operational
system.
The method of analysis used in this study is multiple linear regression
using SPSS version 22, to see the relationship between independent variables with
dependent variable. The sample used in this research is automotive type
companies listed on the Indonesia stock exchanges during the period of 2011 to
2015.
Based on the results of previous research, the results obtained in this study
indicate that accounting earnings and operating cash flows have partially
significant effect on cash dividends. And the accounting profit and operating cash
flows simultaneously have a significant effect on the cash dividend. This result is
in line with the theory put forward by some experts, where shareholders distribute
their cash to shareholders for a certain proportion, referring to the ratio of
accounting earnings and operating cash flows generated.
